You may have heard of Golden Milk, but do you know what it really is? Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot about it in regard to inflammation, but I needed to figure out what it was (or if I’d like it). Golden milk is also known as Haldi doodh in Hindi or as turmeric milk in Western culture. It has been a part of Indian culture for centuries. The drink is bright gold, stemming from yellow turmeric mixed into white milk (our recipe below is prepared with coconut milk).

Many people prepare golden milk to help them fall asleep but did you know the other many health benefits of this drink? Healthline lists many benefits of drinking this milk, including:

  1. Reduce inflammation
  2. Its key ingredients are loaded with antioxidants
  3. It helps reduce inflammation and joint pain
  4. It may improve memory and brain function
  5. Curcumin in turmeric may help improve mood
  6. It may protect against heart disease
  7. It may lower blood sugar levels
  8. It may reduce your risk of cancer
  9. It has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties
  10. Ginger and turmeric help improve digestion

If you’re interested in making golden milk, there are plenty of ways to do it. Making your own helps ensure that it’s safe and healthy. You can choose your preferred milk, add some turmeric to it, adjust the sweetness to taste and enjoy! Making your own is the best way to ensure that your golden milk is healthy and safe for you.

We like to make golden milk in a slow cooker because the spices’ flavors blend so well. While shopping or running errands, make the recipe and come home to the wonderful aromas in your house. If there are any leftovers, pour the golden milk into a sealed container and save it for later. You can reheat it when you’re ready for more!
