Inflammation is the root cause of many health conditions. But with the right herbs and spices, you can help reduce inflammation and live longer.

In the age of chronic disease, you don’t have to look far to find yourself suffering from the ill effects of chronic inflammation. Whether your affliction is as simple as a cold or as debilitating as cancer, it can be difficult to determine exactly what’s causing your problem. And even if you have an idea of the culprit, there isn’t much that you can do to directly alleviate the inflammation and its associated problems.

Some herbs and spices may help reduce inflammation. A few may even help you live longer.

Get the Facts

I don’t know about you, but I have a bad case of “stuffy nose season” right now. And let me tell you, if you’re like me, it can be annoying. But there are ways to keep those things from happening that are more natural than medicine. In this post, we’re going to talk about some of the best herbs and spices that fight inflammation.

Turmeric is one of the most popular spices in the world. It’s not just for curry. It’s used to flavor many food items, and is an incredible natural anti-inflammatory agent. It also happens to be a great way to get your daily dose of curcumin. Curcumin is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory agents around.

Herbs and spicesGinger, an herb and spice native to the East Asian tropics, is being touted as a possible remedy for the pain associated with inflammation. The theory is that ginger provides relief by working on three levels: reducing the perception of inflammation, decreasing the swelling of tissue and increasing blood flow to the affected area. It’s been used for centuries in traditional medicine, and it’s being studied more and more for its ability to provide relief from conditions like arthritis, migraine headaches and even cancer.

There are a lot of reasons why garlic can help reduce inflammation in your body. The biggest reason is that garlic is an antibiotic. Because it’s a natural antibiotic, it has the ability to kill off bacteria and other microbes in the body that might cause problems. This means that garlic is an effective treatment against colds, flu and other illnesses, including infections, bacterial infections and fungal infections.

A recent study published in the journal Inflammation showed that rosemary extract helps fight inflammation in the body. Researchers found that the compound that gives rosemary its distinctive aroma and flavor, rosmarinic acid, can also help prevent cardiovascular disease and improve overall health. Rosemary contains the antioxidants carnosol and carnosic acid. Both of these antioxidants were shown to have anti-inflammatory properties which could help in the treatment of joint inflammation in people with arthritis. I am a huge fan of rosemary and use it often in my cooking. I also use it in my facial masks because it works so well at reducing inflammation in the skin and making it feel smoother.

The spice cardamom is thought to have a variety of health benefits, including its ability to improve insulin sensitivity, regulate blood sugar levels, and help lower cholesterol. Cardamom contains antioxidants called polyphenols, which are thought to play a role in regulating blood sugar and cholesterol. Studies suggest that these antioxidants may protect against heart disease and type 2 diabetes, as well as reduce the risk of dementia. Other studies indicate that the spice also may be effective in treating respiratory infections.

Herbs in ice cube trayPreserve Your Herbs

Once you have a nice dinner on the table, you may have some leftover herbs.  Don’t let those handfuls of chopped rosemary, cilantro, oregano, parsley, thyme or dill go to waste.  Freeze leftover herbs in olive oil in ice cube trays.  Then, while you’re warming a pan for your next meal, toss in a cube or two to melt.  The herb-olive oil mixture will add some delicious taste to the meal and leave the pan lubricated and seasoned.

Add Herbs and Spices to Your Diet

Many people believe that they can use medications for medical problems, but that is a very dangerous thing to do. Medications have side effects and can even be toxic if you take too much of them. The best way to cure your problem is to look for natural ways to treat it. It seems like a simple strategy, but adding herbs and spices to your diet is a great way to reduce inflammation.
