apple cider vinegar

Nothing but Amazing

Apple cider vinegar is one of the most amazing liquids I have ever worked with.  Besides making delicious dressings for salads or marinades, this condiment can be used for so much more.  You can cook with it, clean with it and use it as a fruit and vegetable wash.  I have even killed weeds with this versatile ingredient. There are natural benefits of apple cider vinegar to treat your scalp, even out blood sugar and quench your skin’s thirst (see more information below).  And these are just a few benefits of apple cider vinegar.

I recently had a personal experience with it.  My son had a stubborn wart and I tried everything to remove it!  I tried Compound W and a trip to the doctor for painful freezing that cost hundreds of dollars and lots of tears.  I was so desperate that I even tried a substance from Canada derived from a beetle that blisters your skin to remove it.  NOTHING WORKED!  So, after much hesitation, I decided to try apple cider vinegar, a cotton ball and a bandage.  In less than a week it was completely gone!  It was easy, inexpensive, highly effective, and pain and tear free!

Now you may ask, other than removing warts, are there health benefits associated with apple cider vinegar? Vinegar has been used as a remedy for centuries. The ancient Greeks treated wounds with it. In recent years, people have explored apple cider vinegar as a way to lose weight and improve heart health. Vinegar also has chemicals known as polyphenols. They help stop the cell damage that can lead to other diseases, like cancer.

Uses

After my son’s wart experience I started trying this vinegar for everything!   It cleared up my rosacea and removed my son’s dandruff.  It even helped dissolve my neighbors gall stones.

Choosing the right vinegar is important.  I use Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.  It is fermented and contains the “mother” in it.  Mother is a cobweb-like amino acid-based substance found in unprocessed, unfiltered vinegar, this indicates your vinegar is of the best quality. Most manufacturers pasteurize and filter their vinegar to prevent the mother from forming, but the “murky” kind is best, especially if you’re planning to consume it.

Natural Benefits

(Reference: Prevention.com, October 2019)

Maura Henninger, a naturopathic doctor based in New York City explains that with its high levels of acetic acid, apple cider vinegar can sooth inflammation, raise your metabolism and knock out bacteria. She shares some fresh ideas for using it.

Dandruff and VinegarTreat Your Scalp

Kill fungi that contribute to dandruff while improving your scalp’s overall health. Add equal parts apple cider vinegar and water to a spray bottle and spritz on hair, then shampoo after 15 minutes. Or use it as a weekly clarifying rinse to remove product buildup.

Stabilize Blood Sugar

Apple cider vinegar has been touted as helping people eat less by stabilizing blood sugar and giving a feeling of fullness. (If you have diabetes or acid reflux, check with your doctor first.) Sip this metabolic booster with meals: Stir 2 Tbsp of the vinegar and a little stevia or honey into hot green tea. This is also reputed to stimulate metabolism.

Quench Your Skin’s Thirst

Skin has an acidic barrier that maintains its moisture levels and protects against infection and conditions like eczema. You can restore its acidity and rev up moisture by adding this to a lukewarm bath: 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup coconut oil and 10 drops of lavender essential oil. After soaking, apply moisturizer liberally while skin is still damp. Remember this remedy in the summer because it’s also great for taking the sting out of sunburn.
